Story

you are apprentice of  Merlin the great magician.

he has sent you to the lair of the lich king  in order to  defeat this evil and claim the source of his power. 

knowing full well you are ill equipped to defeat his army and the magical power of the dungeon to rebuild itself and raise more enemies in the dungeon.
 Merlin binds your soul to a crystal at the entrance to the dungeon so if you die you start from the beginning. facing the dungeons depths again and again and again till you are victorious.
